Lafleche Town Council Dogs Bylaw 2025-10-11
Lafleche, Oct 11, 2025
Dear Councilors, Mayor of the Town of Lafleche,
I am writing in regards to the changes to the dogs bylaw that you are in the process of discussing. I understand and welcome updates made to benefit the residents and the administration and I am sure that you will be able to find the right balance to do such things.
In the current system, it is my understanding that the funds collected through the registration of dogs are not used to cover any expenses aimed at the benefit of the community in relation to pets and others animals.
I would urge this Council to reflect on the reasons for imposing a registration fee for dogs and, additionally with the new proposed changes, cats. Who would benefit from this, and how? Would our community improve in any way thanks to these changes? Is a similar system enforceable, or will it just be a (modest) financial burden on those who willingly accept to follow the new rules?
My input to the Council on the matter - should you be interested in accepting any - would be as follows:
- Do not require the payment of a license for pets.
- Require the registration of dogs (without a fee).
- Impose fines for unlicensed dogs.
- Do not apply the same rules of dogs to cats, unless there is a plan to treat them the same way, e.g. not allowing unaccompanied cats or dogs outside and fine the owners if their pet is found alone.
Hoping to hear more about the proposed changes in upcoming council meetings, I thank you in advance for taking the time to consider my opinion on this matter.
Yours truly, Mauro Meden
